Yep, another one ...

According to police reports, Christy Ann Brown, a 33 year old English teacher in Salt Lake City, was nabbed parking with a 16 year old student. News reports say she admitted to having sex with him over 40 times. Another student, also a guy, said that "she was a popular teacher, and some students would try to switch classes so they could be taught by her." Go figure!

Details here.

At least it wasn't steroids

When you saw the photo, you thought he was the librarian - right? Wrong! Russell Fallon is, in fact, a head wrestling coach and teacher at a Middletown, Ohio middle school. He was recently busted ,with a couple of his peeps, for drug related offenses. They were nabbed in a room at a Hampton Inn in suburban Cincinatti, with a bag of pot, rolling papers, and a "chunky white material" that police suspect is narcotics.

Like father, like son?

Christopher Thomas Newman, a 31 year old teacher and assistant football coach at South River High, in Anne Arundel county, Maryland, is accused of an affair with a 16 year old girl. The 31 year old father of two denied all charges. His father was acquitted of similar charged in 1994, when he was serving as a teacher and football coach in the same district.

Proof that teachers are underpaid

I usually stick to stories about American teachers. But I couldn't resist this one, from Vietnam. Le Nguyen To Nhan, an arts teacher at a private academy, sent a syringe home in the backpack of a 3rd grade student. Then, he started leaving messages on her cell phone, indicating he would infect her child with HIV if she didn't deposit VND50 million, about $3,125, into his bank account. If only teachers were paid better, none of this would have happened. Enjoy his story here.

Caught in a sting!

Joel Whitmore, a high school teacher in Lafayette, Louisiana, probably isn't smiling anymore. He was recently booked into maximum security, facing four counts of computer solicitation for sex, six counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and an obscenity charge. The 40 year old teacher was caught by an internet sting, chatting online with someone he thought was underage.

At least she didn't molest a student

Yes, we finally found a teacher whose alleged criminal misconduct did not involve molesting a student. This gal is only charged with theft of over $500. Jackie Mathews, of Goshen, Ohio, is accused of stealing the money from the Clermont County Agricultural Society. She served the Society as a volunteer sales manager for the Clermont County Livestock Sales Committee. Loads of other community service, too ... read about it here.

Turn on the headlights, stupid!

Thomas Pagliaro, recently hired as the head football coach and special education teacher at a small town outside of St. Louis, has been charged with a variety of offenses connected to a make-out session with a teenage girl, which was interrupted by an ill timed visit by the cops. According to the news story, when cops approached, he sped off, tearing through a neighborhood at 50 miles per hour, with no headlights, until his escape was halted by a mailbox. And to top it all off, he had no auto insurance. Details here.

'til death do you part?

A teacher and coach at a Connecticut Catholic school has resigned. Authorities charge that Michael J. Garvie, 30, engaged in sexually explicit online exchanges over four months with a police detective posing as a 15-year-old girl. According to court records, Garvie said that he had just returned from his honeymoon, and had no intention of meeting the girl. If convicted on charges of enticing a minor, and risk of injury to a minor, prison may alter his plan of "'til death do you part." Details here.

What background check?

In Alabama, school employees are supposed to have a pre-employment background check. Unfortunately, since the need to hire quickly trumps the need to keep students safe, employees are often hired "pending background check." Keaton Lamar Battle, a teacher's aide in Dothan City Schools who has been accused of "enticing a child for immoral purposes" was such a hire. But his prior arrests weren't for sexual offenses, and according to the Alabama Department of Education, "a federal court ruling prevents the state department from issuing a blanket list of offenses that will automatically exclude employees from getting a job in education." She Groped Him During Wrestling Practice

Parents Sue Over Teacher's Alleged Sexual Aggression

The parents of a Princeton eighth-grader said the school district waited to alert authorities after being warned a female teacher was being sexually suggestive toward a boy.

She received a suspended four-year prison sentence, was forced to give up her teaching credentials and register as a sex offender.

At least it was non-sexual

A 70 year old recently retired teacher admits that he french-kissed a 9 year old student last year. But he says he just did it to get her to go out for recess, not to be sexual. David Eugene Grey, of Dana Elementary School in the Lucia Mar Unified School District, said that the rest of the class went to recess but this girl and a friend remained behind. According to her testimony, one of the girls left, and when she returned, the door was locked. When she knocked, nobody answered. Apparently, they were busy. Details here.

At least she wasn't a student

A central Illinois elementary school principal has been charged with raping a 20 year old woman at a party. John C. Walker, 42, principal of Illini Bluffs Elementary School, was charged Monday with aggravated criminal sexual assault. The victim told authorities that while attending a party in a home in Walker's neighborhood, she felt sick, and went into a bedroom to lie down. Several minutes later, Walker came into the room and raped her. Walker is married, and has four young children. Hey, we can put a positive spin on this ... at least he's not one of those teachers molesting ten year old girls!

Details here.

Cell phone trouble

This lovely gentleman is Stanley William Deloach Jr., a Virginia middle school teacher. He is accused of sending sexually explicit messages, pictures and live video to an online undercover officer he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Investigators say at one point DeLoach showed pictures of what he claimed to be his own genitalia and asked the decoy to engage in sexual acts with him, saying, "Just to make you feel good. School's out". Details here and here.

Football star drops the ball

Jason Simmons, a former Ohio State football star who now works as a middle school teacher in the Dayton area, has been charged with multiple sexual contacts with a 14 year old girl. Ag teacher caught with bad crop

James Timothy Gibson, an agriculture teacher at Lumpkin County High School in Dahlonega, Georgia, has been charged with growing marijuana, and running a meth lab in his home. They also found $61,000 in the trunk of his car. So much for teachers being underpaid. Details here.

PS: The lawsuit threats are lame. Anything I post comes directly from a news source. Take it up with them... or quit molesting kids and you wouldnt have anything to worry about.

Update + Some Scary Statistics

New complaints about teacher caught in sex scandal

Some residents in Christine Scarlett's neighborhood are angry the sexually oriented offender lives within one thousand feet of a school.
Last June Scarlett was sentenced to 180 days of house arrest. Her home is on Walnut Drive. The property line is aproximately 400 feet from Kinsner elementary school. It is part of the Strongsville District.

The Cuyahoga County Sex Offender Unit knows she is not complying with state law by residing within 1000 feet of a school, but spokesman, Lt. Reginald Eakins, says there is nothing the county can do about it.

The law was written without penalty for non compliance. Lt. Eakins says it is up to the city law director to file a claim in civil court to compel Scarlett to move.

Scarlett was convicted of sexual battery and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles. The former school teacher had an affair with a 17 year old student which resulted in the birth of a child.

According to county records, Scarlett is one of 1,115 sex offenders who live within 1,000 feet of a school. That's more than 38% of all registered sex offenders in the county.

No felony charge against teacher in school gun case

A teacher who allegedly let her son bring a loaded pistol to school is no longer facing felony charges, court papers show.

The charges were dropped, but Linnea C. Holdren, 45, still faces several misdemeanor charges, including reckless endangerment and corruption of a minor. Police say her 11-year-old son twice brought a .22-caliber pistol to school in November 2005.

The boy was expelled from the school in Shickshinny, where Holdren worked as a special education teacher. She has been on paid leave since her arrest. A felony conviction might have blocked her from returning to her job, according to her lawyer, Michael Butera.

The boy showed the gun to students in a school bathroom one day and later carried the weapon and 50 rounds of ammunition on him at school, officials charged.

Teacher avoids prison for Internet crimes

A fired Tokyo elementary school teacher was given a suspended 2 1/2-year prison term and ordered placed under supervision Thursday for the unauthorized posting of photos of five children who died in traffic accidents on his Web site and e-mailing child pornographic materials.

Although Toshio Watanabe, 34, was only charged with copyright violations and with circulating child-pornography materials, the case has caught public attention because it cast light on growing public misgivings over elementary school education, centering on whether such a person should ever be allowed to teach.

Watanabe was fired in March from Shorin Elementary School in a western Tokyo suburb after posting the photos on his Web site Club Kids.
