Sex Offender?

Hearing To Determine Ex-Principal's Sex Offender Status

The courts are trying to determine if a former Cleveland principal should be classified as a sexual predator.

In a high-profile case, Dr. Nancy Marks was convicted of having sex with a 12-year-old student in 1995.

Marks is scheduled to be released from prison in the next month, and a hearing began Tuesday on whether she'll be a threat to other children.

If Marks is classified as a sexual predator, her every move will be followed and parents in her neighborhood will be informed, something prosecutors said is necessary, reported NewsChannel5's Joe Pagonakis.

Cleveland Heights Detective Mark Schmitt told the court the details of the former Case Elementary School principal's relationship with the 12-year-old boy.

Marks was convicted 12 years ago of having sex with the boy and two of his underage friends.

Schmitt explained how Marks gave the boys thousands of dollars to keep them quiet about the ongoing affair.

Marks was also convicted of providing weapons to the boys with whom she had sex.
