Former Lawrence teacher pleads guilty to sex charge

A former English teacher at Lawrence High School faces nearly five years in prison after admitting she had sex with a 15-year-old male student.

Meredith Kane, 24, pleaded guilty Monday in Douglas County District Court to one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. She admitted in court that she had had a sexual intercourse with the boy between August 2006 and March.

Her sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 12. The presumed prison sentence for someone like Kane with no criminal record is four years and 11 months

Kan. Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Minor

A first-year high school teacher has been suspended after being accused of having sex with a minor, officials said.

Meredith L. Kane, 24, was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and two counts of sodomy. Kane was arrested in Lawrence.

According to court records, the charges stem from incidents dating back to August 2006. Kane is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old, officials said.
