Gary Gym Teacher Accused Of Molesting StudentA Tolleston Middle School physical education teacher accused of fondling a seventh-grade special education student was hiding in his basement Wednesday when police arrived to arrest him, Detective Cpl. Nelson Otano said.
John J. Wachel, 48, of Hammond was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor based on the girl's account, which was supported by a witness. Otano said the witness saw the coach grab the girl's buttocks while he looked at her chest and said, "I want some of that."
