Teacher Charged with AssaultA teacher in Lackawanna County has been charged with assaulting a child who has autism.
Jane Forgione, 61, of Dunmore is accused of punching an autistic boy in the back at the Northeast Intermediate Unit.
Investigators said witnesses saw Forgione punch the child in the back and stand on his feet to restrain him. Forgione is free on bail.
Forgione received the 2006 Teacher of the Year away from the autism support group Parents Loving Children Through Autism.
