Teacher Charged with Assault
Parents and students are furious over a teacher, accused of duct-taping a student on Long Island.
Police arrested the teacher after the taped up boy fell and broke his arm. Parents in Setauket are upset and say the gym teacher went way too far.

Suffolk County police say 52-year-old Matthew Foster is charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police say Foster duct taped the student's knee in a locker room and the boy ended up hobbling into the gym breaking his arms.
"It was unacceptable. He took some duct tape and warped the kid's legs up, apparently, because this kid was late for a class," said Lt. Michael Murphy from Suffolk County police. "We don't really know exactly what was going on in his mind."
A 64-year-old paraprofessional at Biscayne Gardens Elementary School has been charged with threatening, kidnapping and raping a woman, Miami-Dade police said.
Richard Jerome Campbell, a 41-year school employee who works with handicapped children, attacked the woman ''while she was incapacitated,'' according to a police report. Police did not explain how the woman was ``incapacitated.''
Arrested Sunday, Campbell was charged with sexual battery of an incapacitated person, armed kidnapping and tampering with a victim.
He was denied bond Monday.
The arrest was his first in Miami-Dade County.
According to an arrest report, the alleged incident happened late May 30 through early the next day.
As he attacked the woman, the report said, Campbell ``prevented [her] from calling police by knocking the phone out of her hand.''
Then he drove her to his home at 16095 NW 37th Ct. and ''placed a gun to her head and threatened to kill her if she called police,'' sexual battery Detective Dalyn Nye wrote in her report.
Police say Campbell confessed.
A Rocklin teacher is being accused of assault after he allegedly attacked a student at Whitney High School last Friday, police said.
Authorities said that John Bosco grabbed a 15-year-old student by the throat and flipped the boy over a chair.
The confrontation may have been triggered by a comment that the student made about Bosco's daughter, investigators said.
A Neuqua Valley High School teacher has been put on administrative leave on allegations that she slapped a student.
Akela Dillon, who taught business classes at Neuqua, is being investigated by the Naperville Police Department for an incident April 3 with a student on the school's campus.
Tiffany Stephens, whose son was allegedly "smacked" by Dillon, said the incident was recorded on a hallway surveillance camera inside the school. She received a call April 3 from administrators at Neuqua that her son was in trouble. According to Stephens, her son originally was accused of striking Dillon.
But after Stephens talked with her son, she confronted administrators who said they had a surveillance videotape of the event. After watching it, she said administrators took back the accusation. The tape does not have sound.
Stephens said her son told her he was standing at a row of lockers during a passing period when the teacher approached him. Her son, who is black, then told her the teacher made derogatory remarks about him dating a white female and then "smacked" him in the face. Stephens said she does not want her son, who is a minor, to speak with the media.
A high school principal on administrative leave since January after police alleged he shot at his estranged wife's sport utility vehicle has resigned.
Michael Banham formally resigned as principal of Calumet High School on Monday just hours before a public hearing to discuss his employment.
Lake Ridge Superintendent Sharon Johnson-Shirley declined to discuss the content of the resignation or reveal any negotiations for benefits. Banham could not be reached for comment because there was no telephone listing for him.
Banham, 36, of Valparaiso, was arrested Dec. 29 and charged with battery, intimidation and criminal recklessness. He is accused of shooting at the SUV carrying his estranged wife, Nichole Banham, in Hammond. He then rammed her car with his orange Hummer on Interstate 65, police said.
A Central Ohio substitute teacher is accused of taking extreme measures to quiet kindergarten students last week.
The Amanda-Clearcreek Primary School principal sent a letter home to parents about a kindergarten class after a substitute teacher clipped some students' mouths shut with clothespins, NBC 4's Tacoma Newsome reported.
Principal Mike Johnsen explained that the substitute teacher used spring-type clothespins on the lips of four boys as a consequence for excessive talking and not listening to her repeated requests to stop talking.
A public school principal who threw human excrement at a child last summer "has suffered enough" from the resulting humiliation, according to a judge who granted her an absolute discharge on one count of assault in a Toronto court yesterday.

Sumner County elementary school teacher Terry Shephard faces several charges after she caused a disturbance at another woman's house, according to Gallatin Police.
According to police, she showed up at the woman's house drunk.
They said Shephard hit the woman, and she bit one of the officers when they tried to arrest her.
She was been charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication, assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.
Shephard is a teacher at Benny Bills Elementary school in Gallatin.
A former special education teacher at Norfork Elementary School faces a misdemeanor charge of child endangerment after being accused of abusing a pupil.
Loretta Dianne Cruse, 59, surrendered at the Baxter County sheriff’s office Friday after authorities had issued a warrant for her arrest. The charge, endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree, is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $ 1, 000 fine.
An affidavit in support of her arrest said Cruse punished an 8-year-old, non-verbal pupil with severe learning disabilities Jan. 10 by putting a dirty trash can over his head and striking the trash can several times. Two teacher’s aides told authorities the trash can may have contained the boy’s feces, which they said they had cleaned up after he had a bowel movement two hours earlier.
The principal of a Charlotte-Mecklenburg middle school is suspended with pay following allegations that he assaulted a student.
Russ Hosey says his son, Nathan, a student at McClintock Middle School, witnessed a fight Friday and was sent to go with Principal Andrew Thiel to tell him what happened. And as Thiel was addressing another class, Nathan saw friends in the classroom and began waving. That’s when he says it got ugly.
"He told the class to wait just one moment and simultaneously turned around and punched my child in the chest with his fist, sending my son stumbling backwards across the hallway," Hosey said.

Paula Fettig, who has been employed by the district since 2004, is accused of slapping the student on the face with an open palm Jan. 24, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Since December, David Harvey has been on the court, volunteering as a basketball coach for the Richmond Youth Sports League’s Timberwolves. Assisting his brother-in-law, who is the head coach of the team of boys ranging from 12-14 years old, Harvey showed the children a thing or two about the game, helped during practices and cheered them on as they scored for the team.
No one knew Harvey, 34, was a non-compliant sex offender.

It wasn’t until a 14-year-old team member came home with a bruise after a night of ball practice that the child’s parents started asking questions.
“He choked him,” alleged Roy Peters, the juvenile’s father. “It happened in basketball practice at Mayfield Elementary. Something happened, he didn’t do something right and (the juvenile) threw the ball to him (Harvey). I guess the guy took it like he was throwing it at him and he grabbed him and choked him.”

A Michigan State University professor whose wife coaches the women's basketball team was arrested on an assault charge after he emptied a trash bin, swung it at an officer and bit him on the finger at an airport, police said.
John Douglas McCallie, a 56-year-old associate professor of economics, was charged with felony counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence, and a misdemeanor count of breach of peace.
