Middle School Teacher To Appear in Court

A central Iowa schoolteacher accused of giving alcohol to two teenage boys is scheduled to be in court Monday.

Ashley Keller will be formally arraigned Monday in a Greene County court.

Keller was a Middle school teacher for Paton-Churdan and Jefferson School Districts.

No Contest


No-contest plea in teacher sex case

A former Special School District teacher pleaded no contest this morning to 21 counts of performing oral sex on four of her students at Ferguson Middle School between Oct. 1, 2005 and Jan. 12, 2006.

Cathy Heminghaus, 47, of Ferguson. faces a minimum of probation to a maximum of a life sentence, plus 150 years, when she is sentenced in St. Louis County Circuit Court on Sept. 14.

Besides the 21 counts of statutory sodomy, Heminghaus also pleaded no contest to two counts of a teacher having sex with a student and two counts of plying minors with alcohol. Quarenghi said the victims told police that some of oral sex acts took place in a classroom at the middle school while one boy would serve as lookout for another.

Police: Teacher, intoxicated, endangers child

A special education teacher was six times the legal limit for intoxication Friday night when she dropped and dragged her 2-year-old son aboard a harbor cruise ship, allege police.

As a result, Holly Spreen, 34, of 39 Langdon St. and 26 Piscassic St., Newmarket, was arraigned in Portsmouth District Court Monday on a charge of child endangerment.

Brought from the Rockingham County House of Corrections where she was held over the weekend, Spreen was also charged with violating bail conditions as a result of a domestic assault charge.

Prosecutor Corey MacDonald told the Herald Spreen’s .49 blood alcohol concentration, which was measured by medical professionals at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, was high enough to induce a coma or cause death.

45 Days In The Slammer

29 year old Carrie McCandless pled guilty to felonies that occured on a school field trip. She has now been sentenced to a whopping 45 days in jail.

During the trip McCandless apparently engaged in some sexual activity with a 17 year old student, as well as bringing and sharing alcohol. There was also a evidence tampering charge stemming from a phone call made to the 'victim' while the investigation was ongoing. You can read more about that and see an even better picture here.

Oh and to top things off, her husband was the principal.

Sheriff: Bossier Teacher Smoked Pot With Teens

A teacher at Elm Grove Middle School in Bossier Parish was arrested Thursday on charges she smoked marijuana with teenagers and bought alcohol for them.

Stephenie Simmons, 35, of Bossier City, was arrested at the Bossier School Board offices in Benton.

Simmons taught seventh grade at Elm Grove and had been a teacher for eight years.

She faces eight counts of unlawful purchase of alcoholic beverages on behalf of people under the age of 21 and six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Sheriff Larry Deen said an investigation by the school system's director of security found that Simmons smoked marijuana with 15- and 16-year-olds last summer at a house in the parish. He said she also, on several occasions, bought alcohol for 14- to 17-year-olds.

Substitute Teacher Charged With Open Container

A substitute teacher in the Ray-Pec School District was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly being under the influence, officers said.

School officials said Karen Charron, 58, from Belton, was serving her second day in the district when a staff member reported a change in the teacher's behavior.

Peculiar officers arrested Charron shortly after 1 p.m. She was charged with possession of an open container and endangering the welfare of a child

Assistant principal, teacher accused of selling beer to students

An assistant high school principal and his wife, a middle school teacher, are accused of holding a keg party where students paid $5 to drink, a prosecutor said Wednesday.

John and Mary Clark turned themselves in to police and were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, said prosecutor Jerry Peace.
