Teacher jailed

A MUSIC teacher who sent text messages to a teenage pupil saying he wanted to grope her breasts has been jailed for 12 months.

David Howell, 34, told the girl: "For some reason you make me feel v horny" and "You really turned me on yesterday."

He had previously spent two years working at Warren School, in Whalebone Lane North, Chadwell Heath.

Howell said he innocently texted her about work and someone else must have used his phone to send the messages.

But he was convicted by the jury of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The teacher mouthed 'I love you' to his wife Claire as he was led away.

Howell started the inappropriate relationship in May 2005.

He sent emails about schoolwork but Howell gave the girl his mobile number.

She texted him and he sent the inappropriate messages back.

Most ended with an 'x' for a kiss.

Teacher due in court still using MySpace site

A Rialto High School teacher who was arrested more than a month ago on suspicion of lewd acts with a girl is apparently communicating with his students via his blog on MySpace.com as he awaits his court date.
Matthew Cepican, 31, was arrested Feb. 26 after Fontana police found him with a 16-year-old Rialto girl in his car in a remote area in the north end of Fontana.

The popular history teacher, called "Mr. C" by students at Rialto High, was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of committing lewd or lascivious acts with a minor.

Cepican has posted bail and is scheduled to appear Monday in Fontana Superior Court, though the District Attorney's Office has yet to file charges against him.

THE teacher at the centre of an internet blog row has been sacked.

Earlier this week the Manchester Evening News reported how psychology teacher Catherine Young-Southward, 37, had been suspended from her post at Hyde Clarendon College, part of Tameside College, after being accused of sending `inappropriate messages' to her pupils through her personal MySpace internet page.

A ONCE respected teacher faces jail after being caught talking to a paedophile about grooming children for sex.

By day Jeffrey Jones taught religious studies and English to youngsters at Warlingham School.

But by night the 60-year-old was a secret "swinger" with a penchant for surfing the internet for child porn.

This week he admitted down-loading 259 indecent images, including pictures of adults having sex with children, pictures of toddlers in sexual poses and pictures of adults having sex with babies.

Southwark Crown Court was told how Jones, who had taught at the school for 34 years, had an online discussion with a man about grooming three children - one of whom was only seven.

Special-needs teacher faces sex charges

A special needs teacher in Prince Rupert appeared in provincial court on Thursday after being charged with sexually assaulting a current student and a former student.

Michael Anthony Kolesar, 57, was arrested Tuesday afternoon outside his residence after police received a tip during an unrelated sexual assault investigation on Monday morning, said Const. Steve Richards of the Prince Rupert RCMP.
He said police took quick action because of concerns about the vulnerability of special needs students.

“It is an important investigation to us, involving a vulnerable group. Any sexual assault investigation is pretty important but definitely with the group that this involved, there was all the more need to move on it quickly.”
Police are not releasing any information on the victims and a publication ban is in effect.

Kolesar faces two charges of sexual assault and two charges of sexual exploitation of a person with a disability. He appeared in provincial court for a show of cause hearing Thursday afternoon. He was released on bail with several conditions that include avoiding “anywhere that children under the age of 14 years are reasonably expected to be present.”

Police allege the offences occurred between September 1997 and March 2007, and that Kolesar used his position as a teacher to facilitate a relationship with his victims.
Richards said police released Kolesar’s photograph to the media because “we’re concerned there may be more victims.”

Guilty of sodomizing underage student

A Montessori teacher was convicted yesterday of sodomizing an underage student and bribing a second with sneakers and $400 to lie to investigators.

But Manhattan jurors could not agree on whether the teacher, Lina Sinha, 40, had raped the second student, when he was 12.

Sinha, who faces up to 18 years in prison, will be sentenced April 19 by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Carol Berkman. The student Sinha was convicted of sodomizing as a 13-year-old is now a police officer.

"I'm profoundly disappointed," said Sinha's lawyer Gerald Shargel.

He said his client will appeal and he expects her family to raise her $3.5 million bail.

Police: teacher stole from school, put the goods on E-Bay

ENDICOTT, N.Y. An upstate school teacher was arrested today, accused of stealing instructional materials from her school and putting the stolen items for sale on the E-Bay Internet auction site.

Authorities say Jo-Ann Peters apparently had been stealing items from the L-W West School in the Union-Endicott School District for several months.

State police executed a search warrant at the teacher's town of Owego home this morning and found a large quantity of things from the school.

An investigator said police discovered instructional materials, a computer and a camera in the residence. He said the stolen property was valued at more than a thousand dollars.

The arrest of two women teachers on charges of having sex with their male students has brought cries of lingering racism in one of South Carolina's most conservative counties and evoked some of the South's oldest and deepest-seated racial taboos.

Both women are white. The boys — six in all — are black.

Some of the blacks who make up more than a quarter of Laurens County's 70,000 residents are upset over the handling of the two cases, particularly the release of the teachers on bail.

Wendie Schweikert, a 37-year-old married woman who had been teaching elementary school in Laurens for more than a decade, was arrested last year after the mother of an 11-year-old boy accused her of having sex with the boy at school at least twice. Authorities said they found evidence bearing his DNA in her classroom. She is also accused of having sex with him in her car near a miniature golf course and arcade in Greenville, about 40 miles away.

Allenna Ward, a 24-year-old minister's daughter in her second year of teaching, was fired Feb. 28 after she was charged with having sex with at least five boys. Some of the alleged victims, 14 and 15 years old, were students at the middle school in Clinton where Ward taught. Police say Ward, who is married, had sex with the boys at the school, at a motel, in a park and behind a restaurant.

N.D. Teacher Pleads Guilty To Corruption Of Minor

A former math teacher from Finley-Sharon High School in North Dakota pleaded guilty to a charge of corruption of a minor.

Jonathan Champagne was accused of having sexual contact with a 17-year-old female student. As part of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but 60 days suspended.

Prosecutors dropped two other counts of corruption of a minor and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Champagne was hired by the Crookston School District in Minnesota last summer, but was fired after charges were filed in the Finley case

Teacher Charged with Sexually Abusing 17 Students

An elementary school music teacher at the Onondaga Nation School was charged Wednesday with sexually abusing as many as 17 young students between ages seven and 14.

Authorities in central New York say Albert Scerbo was originally arrested in December for having sexual contact with two young girls, ages 7 and 8. Investigators say the incidents occurred between September 2002 and December 2006.

But Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick says the list of victims grew as deputies investigated the 44-year-old town of Clay.

The indictment returned Wednesday charged Scerbo with 17 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, 11 counts of second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, four counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and three counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

Crackhead bus driver is a bookie, feds charge

A school bus driver exposed as a crackhead in the Daily News was also moonlighting as a foulmouthed bookie for a gambling ring with ties to the Mafia, authorities said yesterday.

Frank Cappello, 53, was accused in a federal complaint unsealed in Brooklyn of collecting debts from gamblers who had lost bets as high as $10,000 on sporting events.

The News reported last week that Cappello was driving schoolchildren even after he was arrested in the lobby of a housing project with crack. The Education Department did not learn of the bust for more than a month until a union representative informed Cappello's bus company.

He tested positive for cocaine in September, and his certification to drive a school bus was revoked after 32 years on the job.

Philippines bus siege ends in surrender

A day-care center owner armed with grenades and guns held more than 30 youngsters and teachers hostage on a bus Wednesday, then freed them after a 10-hour standoff that he used to denounce corruption and demand better lives for impoverished children.

Clutching dolls, toys and backpacks, the children began filing off the bus shortly after 7 p.m., as Jun Ducat had promised in a rambling message delivered via a loudspeaker hours earlier.

Ducat, a 56-year-old civil engineer who has staged other attention-grabbing stunts in the past, then put the pin back in a grenade, handed it to a provincial governor, Luis "Chavit" Singson, and surrendered as Singson held his arm.

"I accept that I should be jailed because what I did was against the law," Ducat said in an interview with The Associated Press shortly before the standoff ended

A substitute teacher in the Ray-Pec School District was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly being under the influence, officers said.

School officials said Karen Charron, 58, from Belton, was serving her second day in the district when a staff member reported a change in the teacher's behavior.

Principal Accused Of Having Porn On Laptop Avoids Ax

NBC5's Marion Brooks reported that the Bellwood School District 88 board voted 4-3 to not follow Superintendent Nichelle Rivers' recommendation that McKinley Elementary School principal Paul Glover be fired. Glover has been suspended with pay, Brooks reported.

Rivers said she had no intention of allowing Glover back into the district.

"I have to keep doing what I know is right, and keep making the recommendations to the board that I believe are right," Rivers said.

District officials in suburban Bellwood claim to have found pornography on the laptop. Officials said Glover was warned and reprimanded in November when the superintendent did a random sweep of school-issued computers, which are to be used for school business only. Instead, they said, he added more.

"He was warned in November about the photos," said school board member Antoinette Davis. "He then doubled, tripled the photos in March."

Glover is accused of having inappropriate pictures of grown women dressed as children on the laptop. Glover was suspended without pay on March 6.

Middle School Teacher Charged With Sexual Assault of 13-Year-Old Girl

A Barron County middle school teacher is charged with sexually assaulting a teenager.

Thirty-eight-year-old Nathan E. Cox faces one felony count of second-degree sexual assault of a child.

Prosecutors say the sexual contact happened in Barron County last summer.

And the Barron County Sheriff says his department is treating the case as a priority.

Parents with children in the Prairie Farm School District got letters letting them know a teacher was in trouble.

The district's administrator says Nathan E. Cox teaches math to students in grades five through nine.

He also coaches middle school track and wrestlers of all ages.

A Wright Elementary School teacher was under investigation Monday after the mother of a 4-year-old girl alleged he improperly touched the child, Harlandale Independent School District spokesman Pete Barcenez said Monday.

The pre-kindergarten teacher, who was out sick Monday, will be placed on paid administrative leave today while the district's police department and the San Antonio Police Department investigate, Barcenez said.

A former special education teacher at Norfork Elementary School faces a misdemeanor charge of child endangerment after being accused of abusing a pupil.

Loretta Dianne Cruse, 59, surrendered at the Baxter County sheriff’s office Friday after authorities had issued a warrant for her arrest. The charge, endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree, is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $ 1, 000 fine.

An affidavit in support of her arrest said Cruse punished an 8-year-old, non-verbal pupil with severe learning disabilities Jan. 10 by putting a dirty trash can over his head and striking the trash can several times. Two teacher’s aides told authorities the trash can may have contained the boy’s feces, which they said they had cleaned up after he had a bowel movement two hours earlier.

Northport teacher faces sex abuse charges

Police arrested a substitute teacher at Northport High School for engaging in sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl he befriended in class.

Thomas Baudier, 22, of 26 Valley Road, Northport, was charged with third-degree sexual abuse endangering the welfare of a child after his arrest Monday night. He was held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Seminole County Teacher Faces Sentencing

A Seminole County teacher who was convicted of abusing a special-needs student will learn her fate on Tuesday.


Kathleen Garrett will return to the courtroom on Tuesday morning, WESH 2 News reported.

Garrett was convicted of abusing an autistic student. She faced several charges but was convicted on one incident.

The jury said they believed Garrett leaned on a child who was acting up until he nearly turned blue because his neck was against the edge of his desk.

A 44-year-old former teacher's aide was charged with aggravated sexual assault early Tuesday.

Enrique Gil Martinez was being held in the Bexar County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.

According to a police affidavit, a 19-year-old man went to police March 7 to report a sexual relationship he had with Martinez when the suspect worked at Nimitz Middle School.

The man told police that Martinez molested him more than 100 times over a period of five years, beginning when he was 13, the affidavit stated.

3rd-Grade Teacher Faces Child Porn Charges

A third-grade teacher at Oakland Park Elementary was arrested Monday, accused of owning, distributing and promoting child pornography on the Internet.

Michael A. Postma was arrested at his residence after authorities obtained a federal search warrant for his property and discovered pornographic photographs of a child on his computer hard drive, Plantation police said.

According to police, an undercover detective in Keene, N.H., had been posing online as a 14-year-old boy and conversing online with Postma, 29, since December.

It's a tough lesson for a Kentucky middle school teacher. State police say she sent text messages looking for marijuana to a state trooper instead of a drug dealer.
The trooper was at a birthday dinner when his phone started buzzing with messages about a pot purchase.

Police spokesman Barry Meadows says the trooper thought it was a joke at first, but realized it wasn't after a few phone calls. So he set up a meeting with Ann Greenfield.

A former school bus driver faces federal charges of sexually exploiting a child.

Andrew Grabow, 40, of Florence is charged in U.S. District Court in Covington with four counts of making or trading images of child porn over the Internet. If convicted of all the charges, he could be sentenced up to 50 years in prison.

He is already indicted in Boone and Kenton counties on child sexual exploitation charges. Investigators say he exploited two children - a 16-year-old student who rode his Boone County Schools bus and a pre-teen. The abuse dates back to June 2004.

WINSTED: School bus driver charged with hitting brakes to quiet students

A school bus driver accused of slamming on the brakes to quiet a dozen students on board earlier this month turned herself in to police Friday night after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Wendy Middlebrook, 33, of Royer Street, was released after posting a $25,000 court-set bond. She is due to appear in Bantam Court April 2, when she will be arraigned on 12 counts of risk of injury to a minor .

According to court documents and police, Middlebrook was bringing students home from the Hinsdale Elementary School on the afternoon of March 13 when she tried, unsuccessfully, to get the youths on board to pay attention to her. She was about to drop off several of the students at an after-school program on Lake Street when she stopped the bus suddenly, police said.

Elementary principal jumps off bridge, commits suicide

The woman who jumped to her death Thursday afternoon from the tallest bridge in Ohio was the principal of a Clermont County elementary.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., Eileen M. Murphy, 55, of Cincinnati, parked her 2002 Honda Accord in the right lane of northbound Interstate 71, near the south end of the Jeremiah-Morrow Bridge, got out and jumped off into the Little Miami River some 240 below.

Del Valle Teacher Investigated For Child Porn

A Del Valle teacher was put on leave while he is investigated for child pornography.

Leland Keith Easterling teaches ninth- and 10th-grade geometry at Del Valle High School.

School officials said they were contacted by the Texas Attorney General's Office Tuesday about the investigation.

Easterling was placed on leave with pay until the outcome of the investigation.

Riverton teacher is charged with 11 new sex-abuse counts

Eleven additional charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child were filed Friday against an award-winning teacher at Rosamond Elementary School.

Frank Laine Hall, 36, now faces a total of 14 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. The new charges represent six additional victims, bringing the total to nine.

Originally, Hall was accused of putting his hand down the pants of three female students in his first-grade classroom, 12195 S. 1975 West, in Riverton. All of the approximately 20 students in his class are 6 or 7 years old.

The amended charges do not give details about the six additional victims, including whether they were his students or if the abuse occurred in his classroom.

However, 10 of the additional charges reflect allegations between July 1, 2006, and March 9, 2007, the day Hall was removed from the classroom, according to court documents.

Maybe the death of an 18-year-old at the hand of a jealous husband will put an end to the rib-poking and television footage of bikini-clad teachers straddling motorcycles or gyrating in garter belts.

Maybe now that 18-year-old Sean Powell is dead, it won’t seem so cool to have had an affair with the hotty high school teacher.

Maybe now that we see the consequences of having the teacher transformed from an authority figure to a cool friend we may question current pedagogical methods.

But probably not, considering who runs our schools. As study after study has indicated, most educators do not emerge from the top tier of college graduates.

These administrators, curriculum devisers, and teacher trainers will continue in their schizophrenic way: by divesting teachers of the authority traditionally endowed to adults—especially those in the classroom—and at the same time being puzzled by student-teacher affairs.

Time was when the teacher was an authority figure, someone to be feared, not a pal, not anyone a teenager would choose to spend time with.

Now the 26-year-old teacher’s assistant is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student. The Houston school district said detectives pulled him from class and arrested him. Police Search for Soccer Coach Accused of Molesting Girls

San Diego police are trying to track down a local youth soccer coach accused of a disturbing crime. Miguel Madriz, 43, is accused of repeatedly molesting one of the girls on his team.

Neighbors confirmed that Madriz lived in an apartment building on Highland Avenue in City Heights. They report that Madriz abandoned his home and car after realizing that he was being investigated.

A teacher who has been suspended since January, apparently for a derogatory crack about a Mormon-run university, was carried out of Moses Lake High School after "initiating a riot," officials said.

Four school personnel carried Samson "Sam" Lyman, a science teacher, out of the building by his arms and legs Wednesday after he burst through the cafeteria doors and began yelling that he had been treated unfairly, peppering his language with obscenities, Principal Dave Balcom said.

"When (school officials) approached him, he jumped on a chair and started initiating a riot in our school commons," Principal Dave Balcom said. "Unfortunately it led to us having to remove him."

The principal of a Charlotte-Mecklenburg middle school is suspended with pay following allegations that he assaulted a student.

Russ Hosey says his son, Nathan, a student at McClintock Middle School, witnessed a fight Friday and was sent to go with Principal Andrew Thiel to tell him what happened. And as Thiel was addressing another class, Nathan saw friends in the classroom and began waving. That’s when he says it got ugly.

"He told the class to wait just one moment and simultaneously turned around and punched my child in the chest with his fist, sending my son stumbling backwards across the hallway," Hosey said.

Hosey says there were witnesses in the hallway and his son was gasping for breath. He says only after addressing another class did Thiel escort Nathan to the nurse's office.

Cops: Bus driver bought drugs from a student

A Northeastern Transit Inc. bus driver faces charges of buying prescription drugs several times last month from a 16-year-old student he drove daily to an alternative school in South Scranton.

Robert W. Griffith, 67, of 3901 Wylam Ave., Moosic, told investigators he never used the medications he bought from the boy, whom he said he felt sorry for and was trying to impress the teenager as “a big guy,” police said.

The boy told police Mr. Griffith asked him in February to find him drugs. Over the course of the month, the driver allegedly paid him numerous times for Xanax and Seroquel that the boy took from his mother. Xanax is an anti-anxiety drug; Seroquel is used to treat bipolar disorder.

A Rio Rancho, N.M., teacher accused of putting a student in a storage room has been placed on leave, although the child's mother wanted her arrested.

Tanya and George Griego said their 13-year-old son has severe anxiety disorder, attention deficit disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

They described the room he was left in as a large supply closet, although a school spokeswoman told the newspaper it has also been used as a classroom.

The room's door is difficult to open and the boy thought he was locked in, George Griego said.

A Gravette High School drama teacher was arrested after admitting he had sex with a female student.

Casey Helms, 32, of 8148 Randall Lane in Decatur was arrested Wednesday in connection with a felony charge of first-degree sexual assault. Helms was held Thursday in the Benton County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Helms admitted to Benton County Sheriff's Office investigators he had an consensual sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student after he was confronted with the girl's statements to investigators.

A Beech Grove High School gym teacher and head girls basketball coach faces a charge of misdemeanor battery after a 15-year-old student said the teacher slapped her during gym class.


Paula Fettig, who has been employed by the district since 2004, is accused of slapping the student on the face with an open palm Jan. 24, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Youth coach charged in player assault

Since December, David Harvey has been on the court, volunteering as a basketball coach for the Richmond Youth Sports League’s Timberwolves. Assisting his brother-in-law, who is the head coach of the team of boys ranging from 12-14 years old, Harvey showed the children a thing or two about the game, helped during practices and cheered them on as they scored for the team.

No one knew Harvey, 34, was a non-compliant sex offender.

No one knew he had served a prison term for attempted murder.

It wasn’t until a 14-year-old team member came home with a bruise after a night of ball practice that the child’s parents started asking questions.

“He choked him,” alleged Roy Peters, the juvenile’s father. “It happened in basketball practice at Mayfield Elementary. Something happened, he didn’t do something right and (the juvenile) threw the ball to him (Harvey). I guess the guy took it like he was throwing it at him and he grabbed him and choked him.”

Authorities arrest E. Lincoln teacher

An East Lincoln High School science teacher has been charged with taking indecent liberties with a 15-year-old female student.

The sheriff's office said Jeremiah Howard Wood, 28, of Cameron is suspected of having inappropriate contact with the student on school grounds.

Teacher Resigns After Student's Party

A Lincoln County High School teacher has resigned after school authorities say she attended a party at a student's home that involved "inappropriate behavior."

The teacher, who had been at the school for three years, resigned when Lincoln County School Superintendent Teresa Wallace questioned her about the incident, which allegedly involved several students. According to Wallace, the teacher declined to answer any questions about the party and instead offered her resignation

Teacher accused of child rape

A Blackstone teacher has been indicted on charges she raped one of her students.

Donna Giguere, 38, of Susan Drive, Blackstone, was indicted by a grand jury in Worcester last week on two counts of rape of a child under age 16; two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under age 14; and two counts of unnatural rape of a child under 16, according to Timothy J. Connolly, a spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Ms. Giguere, an eighth-grade teacher at Frederick Hartnett Middle School in Blackstone, is scheduled to be arraigned April 20 in Worcester Superior Court, according to court records. The indictment was handed up Thursday, Mr. Connolly said.

Mr. Connolly did not comment further on the charges.

Blackstone police yesterday said Ms. Giguere was arrested Jan. 16 on charges that she befriended the boy when he was a student and sexually assaulted him. Blackstone Police Detective Wayne Mowry said the boy is now 17.

A Rutherford County teacher who entered a no-contest plea on charges of soliciting a 15-year-old student for sex will probably have to find another profession.

"Pretty much, his teaching career is over," said Rich Haglund, General Counsel for the State Board of Education.

On Tuesday, former Siegel High School teacher Nalin White entered a no-contest plea to three counts of soliciting a minor.

The 29-year-old geography teacher had been suspended without pay since the incident was reported last May.

A teacher accused of having sex with a former student who was shot to death outside her home tried to commit suicide five days later with a drug overdose, Nashville police said.

Nashville's 911 call center was contacted on March 15 by a Knoxville police officer, who said Erin McLean's family there believed she had taken an overdose.

Miramar Coach Re-Arrested On Sex Charges

More charges have been filed against a Miramar high school wrestling coach accused of sexually assaulting students.

In the last week, two more girls have come forward to Miramar Police and said they were sexually molested by 28-year old Alain Cupas while he was working at Everglades High School.

The first girl, a 14-year old, said she and Cupas had unprotected consensual sex between 10 and 20 times in either his office or the school’s gym.

A second teen to come forward, a 17-year old girl, said when she was 15-years old and on the wrestling team, Cupas would touch her on her breasts and buttocks, look down her shirt, and even tried to kiss her after wrestling practices and tournaments.

Earlier this month, Cupas was arrested for allegedly molesting a teenage student on March 2nd.

Woodburn teacher reprimanded in thigh-biting incident

State regulators have reprimanded a Woodburn teacher for biting a high school wrestler on the inside of the thigh, leaving teeth marks.

Assistant wrestling coach Peter Porath was defending himself against a "wedgie" attack, according to the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission.

During the Dec. 12, 2005 incident at a wrestling practice, "At least six wrestlers, weighing between 180 and 215 pounds each, came up to Mr. Porath from behind in an attempt to give him a 'wedgie'. In the process of getting the boys off of him, Mr. Porath bit the inside of a wrestler's leg leaving distinct teeth marks," the commission's order states.

Officials: Ex-Principal Stole From Parents

A former Camden elementary school principal and his top aide were indicted Monday on charges that they tricked parents and students in the nation's poorest city into paying for outings that were financed by the school district, then kept the thousands of dollars they collected.

They were also indicted, along with another former elementary school principal and her schoolteacher daughter, in a suspected scheme to overbill the district for leadership meetings authorities say never occurred.

Authorities say the ex-principal of H.B. Wilson Elementary School and the top staffer pocketed more than $14,000 — collected in increments as small as $5 — to fund trips to such destinations as the Philadelphia Zoo, Storybook Land and an American Indian reservation.

A first-year high school teacher has been suspended after being accused of having sex with a minor, officials said.

Meredith L. Kane, 24, was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and two counts of sodomy. Kane was arrested in Lawrence.

Deputies say Bellaire teacher found with half-naked teen

A teacher at Bellaire High School is under investigation for possible sex crimes involving a former student, 16, for whom she also serves as legal guardian, according to Precinct 5 Constable's Capt. Michael Coleman.

Residents in the 4900 block of Valkeith in Meyerland spotted a van Sunday parked in the driveway of a vacant house and called Precinct 5 constable's deputies to investigate.

Deputies found the male teen naked from the waist down in a van with blacked-out windows. Tamara Ryman, 37, a Bellaire algebra teacher, was with the teen in the van, Coleman said.

A female teacher at Salpointe Catholic High School resigned Friday after being questioned about allegations of a sexual relationship with an underage male student, a police report says.

Salpointe administrators first received reports of sexual misconduct by the teacher with the student on Thursday, but they didn't notify police until Friday, a Tucson Police Department report said.

High school janitor arrested for selling heroin

A high school janitor was arrested Thursday night for selling high grade heroin to an undercover detective on school property.

Ricardo Rivera, 31, worked as a janitor at Lehigh Senior High School.

Detectives say they got a tip that he was a mid to upper level heroin and cocaine dealer so they set up two deals.

During the second deal, Rivera and an alleged accomplice - 30-year-old Carlos Manuel Rodriguez - tried to sell more than 255 grams of heroin to the undercover officer.

Piano Teacher Accused of Sex Abuse Again

For the second time this year, a Port Jefferson piano teacher has been arrested on charges that he sexually abused a young student.

Suffolk cops say 74-year-old Nicholas Panos, a piano teacher at the Three Village Music Shop in East Setauket, touched the private area of an 8-year-old female student last month. The victim told police that she had been abused by Panos numerous times within the past year.

De. Teacher sentenced for student sex

A sixth-grade science teacher who was accused of having sex with a 13-year-old student has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Rachel L. Holt, 35, had pleaded guilty to second-degree rape. She sobbed in court Friday as Superior Court Judge Calvin L. Scott gave her the mandatory minimum sentence.

Teacher Facing Sex Assault Charges

A former Illini Bluffs high school teacher and coach faces sexual assault charges for allegedly having sex with a teenage student.

Thirty-one-year-old Ian McDonald was a social studies teacher and boys basketball coach at Illini Bluffs High School in Glasford.

He resigned earlier this week.

Police say the alleged sexual assault involved a 17-year-old student who is now 18.

It was unclear last night when the incident allegedly happened.

McDonald is being held at the Peoria County Jail.

His arrest comes days after being jailed for trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Authorities allege he watched teenage girls in a hot tub behind a home in Glasford.

Teacher faces second sex claim

For the second time in a week, a Manual High School teacher was in court for allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with a student.

But this time, Jodi E. Church, 26, wasn't accused of having sex with the Manual student. Rather, the special education teacher faces federal charges of using the Internet to entice a 16-year-old teen to have sex with her

Church garnered attention from authorities last month after the girlfriend of another Manual student informed police that Church was having sex with her boyfriend, the complaint states. Church has been charged in Peoria County Circuit Court with criminal sexual assault for allegedly having sex with that student.

The sexual relationship began during the summer, when the student, now 16, accepted a ride home from Church after an open gym session at the school, according to the complaint. She allegedly performed a sexual act on him in her vehicle.

The teen told police they also had sex at Church's home, and that he spent the night there at least once during their more-than-nine-month relationship.

New information is discovered concerning a high school wrestling coach and security guard accused of molesting a 15-year-old girl at Miramar’s Everglades High School.

Alain Tomas Cupas, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly molesting a teenage student on March 2nd.

According to information obtained by the Miami Herald, Cupas was previously tried and acquitted of a sex crime in North Dakota in 2002. He also gave the district a résumé that exaggerates some of his credentials.

A Michigan State University professor whose wife coaches the women's basketball team was arrested on an assault charge after he emptied a trash bin, swung it at an officer and bit him on the finger at an airport, police said.

John Douglas McCallie, a 56-year-old associate professor of economics, was charged with felony counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence, and a misdemeanor count of breach of peace.

A former bus driver pleads innocent to a city drunken driving ticket at Delavan stemming from her transporting of 25 Phoenix Middle School wrestlers last month.

Fifty-one-year-old Connie Holden of Delavan faces a thousand-dollar fine and 18-month revocation of her regular driver's license if convicted. She could also lose her bus driver's license for five years.

Her innocence would be easy to prove it wasnt for that pesky Scooby Doo blood test.

Authorities say a blood draw showed Holden's blood-alcohol content was more than twice Wisconsin's legal limit.

When the little girl's mom went to pick her up at the bus stop she says she saw a lot of students yelling at the bus driver. She asked what was going on and she says the students told her the bus driver shook her little girl. The mom confronted the bus driver. The driver said that never happened and denied the whole thing “My first reaction? it was just shock,” said the father.

Pleasant Hope teacher ousted for teaching methods

The Pleasant Hope school board voted to remove a middle school social studies teacher after parents complained about his teaching methods, including an assignment to write about children who murder children.

From an older article we get more details:

Social studies teacher Leon Biggs was placed on administrative leave last week after assigning seventh-graders to read — and then write about — articles that detailed cases where children murdered preschoolers.

One article came from a true crime Web site, the other from the CBS News show "48 Hours," and touched on possible reasons children might become murderers, the impact murders had on families and consequences for the murderers.

Both articles described how young children were battered or strangled to death and included references to sexual assault and sodomy. Their murderers were ages 10 and 13.

A Bridgewater-Raritan High School teacher arrested on drug charges has been suspended with pay, pending the completion of a police probe, district Superintendent Michael Schilder said.

Karen Esposito-Faigenbaum, 31, a Bridgewater-Raritan High School language and literature teacher, was charged with third-degree attempt to possess a controlled dangerous substance and third-degree attempted conspiracy to possess controlled substances.

Two Women Accused This Week of Sleeping with Underage Male Teens

Reports of two New York women charged with having sex with their students may be the latest in a wave of cases in which female teachers are accused of sexually molesting young boys.

Marcia Amsterdam, 30, a speech teacher at a Brooklyn junior high school is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old boy.

Emily Streb, 23, is a music teacher at a Bronx special education school charged with rape for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old boy who suffered from psychiatric problems.

Last week, Allena Ward, a 23-year-old teacher in South Carolina, was charged with having sex with five teenage boys on school property, in a park and at a motel.

A part-time music teacher [Jason Brenner] in Venice, Florida, decided he probably will have to resign from his teaching post. He was given several options but one of them was not allowing him to pursue an acting career in the local theater workshop because of a nude scene in one performance.

The nudity scene he has to perform is crucial to his stage character in the famous British film hit, “Full Monty”. His character strips for a night to raise money to help support his family.

Fort Bend principal placed on leave over e-mailed photos

A Fort Bend Independent School District elementary school principal has been placed on administrative leave after she admitted sending e-mails containing photographs of children, school district officials said Friday.

"The pictures are not pornographic," said school district spokeswoman Mary Ann Simpson

Ann Sandoval, the principal at Ridgegate Elementary School, used her home computer to send the e-mails to school staff members, Simpson said.

Simpson said the photographs contain such images as young boys urinating into flower pots. She said the children appeared to be 3 to 5 years old.

"She thought they were funny and saw no harm in it and didn't mean to offend anybody," Simpson said.

Funny eh? Perhaps to some, but I prefer The Colbert Report myself. If she's going with the humor defense she should have had better common sense. What would happen in a role reversal w/ a male principal sending the same pictures of little girls.

Grumpy' teacher accused of hitting pupil

BOULDER, Colo., March 9 (UPI) -- A substitute teacher known to her Boulder, Colo., fifth-graders as "Mrs. Grumpy Lady" was accused of hitting one in the head with a viola bow.

Carla Skinners, 63, was also accused of swearing in front of students, KMGH-TV, Denver, reported. She was free on $1,000 bond Friday awaiting formal charges.

Skinners allegedly became so upset with her Creekside Elementary student orchestra last month, she grabbed a viola bow and struck a girl in the back of the head, a police report said.

Skinners, who was fired, allegedly told the school district human resources director complaints were filed against her because she is white and the students Hispanic.

Angry about a disciplinary action, Sacred Heart High School math teacher James Kennedy tossed books and furniture around a faculty lounge before quitting in a fit of rage, police said.

Authorities say Kennedy, 29, then fired off a torrent of threatening e-mails to a fellow teacher and three female students, prompting a lock-down of the school and his own arrest on Thursday afternoon.

‘‘You’re going down, b---,’’ he wrote to a female colleague in one of the e-mails that a prosecutor read aloud Friday in Plymouth District Court. ‘‘You f--- with the wrong person. You’re f--- going down, you zero. I’m going to make your life a nightmare.’’

Kennedy was charged with threatening to bomb or hijack a school, causing serious public alarm.

A health teacher [7-year-old teacher, Scott Groff] made 8th graders read aloud explicit questions about oral sex and masturbation during a sex-education lesson at a suburban school this week, outraging parents who demanded the teacher be disciplined.

Apparently it wasn't just parents being uptight like they can be sometimes:

My daughter brought it to our attention because she was disgusted with it,” said Grady Braley, father of a Wolcott 14-year-old. “There’s certain things at her age they need to know. But this was a how-to manual.”

A Mililani Middle School teacher who pleaded no contest to drug possession remains on paid administrative leave while school officials conduct an internal investigation.

The above mentioned teacher was one Lisa Luhrsen, plead guilty, accepted treatment and paid her fine. Her case has prompted talks of mandatory drug testing for teachers which many oppose. No really, it says it right here:

"I'm glad that the teacher is taking responsibility for her actions. That is a very positive sign," said Sen. Clayton Hee.

Hee said he supports a bill requiring drug testing for state teachers, but many teachers oppose mandatory testing.

Now maybe Hee is talking out his arse, or I'm missing something, but why exactly would teachers oppose mandatory drug testing? Ive had to take a drug test to be a janitor, whats the big deal?

A Toronto high school teacher [Paola Queen, 35] is charged with sexual exploitation following allegations that she has been romantically involved with a student for the last 18 months.

And even more startling, Toronto Police confirmed yesterday that the family studies teacher is carrying a baby believed to have been fathered by the teenage boy.

There was of course no sign at all that something was going on w/ the two:

the teacher moved in with her teenage lover recently and they were living together at the time of her arrest.

NY Teacher Accused of Sex With Student

Twenty-three-year-old Emily Streb was arraigned yesterday in charges of having an affair with her 16-year-old special ed student who suffers from depression and other problems. Streb was the 16-year-old's music teacher and allegedly had sex with him multiple times.

Emily has an internet history that with creative googling will bring up a host of information, but at the moment I am undecided if I am willing to share that kind of information on this blog. The exception being myspace accounts, but as hers is private, theres really no need.
